COURSE FEATURES
CURRICULUM
The medical curriculum at UCC is an integrated systems-based curriculum that emphasizes the integration of life sciences and clinical practice from the outset. Students have early clinical exposure and spend most of their last three years in full-time clinical placement.
TEACHING FACILITIES
Brookfield Health Sciences Complex is a modern purpose-built building, just a few minutes walk from main campus. Most of the basic sciences and clinical skills teaching takes place here. The Physiology Department and the world-renowned FLAME Anatomy lab are located in the nearby Western Gateway Complex. The ASSERT Advanced Simulation Training Centre is the newest addition (2016) to the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex.
TEACHING HOSPITALS
Most of our teaching hospitals are only a short walk from campus. Our extensive network of teaching hospitals includes Ireland’s only Level 1 Trauma Centre. Students receive teaching in all specialities allowing for a diverse range of clinical experiences.
RESEARCH
Developing students’ research skills is an integral part of the medical programme at UCC and students have the opportunity of working with world-class researchers in one of Ireland’s leading research institutions. All students complete a final Year Project and many students present their projects at national and international conferences and publish their work in peer-reviewed publications.
